How work proceeds

Engagement path

From first enquiry to written summary — the sequence we use for financial performance consulting with owner-managed firms.

Financial performance consulting only helps if both sides know when work starts, what “done” looks like, and who owns each step. This page is the path we follow for reviews, cash planning, and the start of retainers.

01 — Enquiry

You write or call with a plain description of the firm and the question you need answered. We confirm whether we are the right fit or whether an accountant or specialist adviser is better placed.

02 — Discovery call

A short conversation — typically 25–30 minutes — to test scope, timeline, and access to accounts. No fee. If we proceed, you receive a one-page scope note.

03 — Confirmation

You accept the scope in writing. Project work usually begins with a 50% commencement invoice. We send a document checklist and schedule working sessions.

04 — Document review

We work through management accounts, supporting schedules, and your owner questionnaire before we meet again. If records are incomplete, we stop and say so rather than guess.

05 — Working sessions

Findings are tested in conversation. You bring the operational context; we bring the financial reading. Decisions stay with you.

06 — Written summary

You receive a concise summary and agreed next steps. For retainers and reporting packs, this stage becomes a recurring monthly rhythm instead of a single close-out.

After the engagement

Many owners return for an Owner Reporting Pack or Advisory Retainer. Others take the summary to their accountant or bank and continue alone. Either path is fine — we do not lock you into ongoing work.
