Why we exist
Owner-managed firms in New Zealand often sit between two imperfect options: a compliance accountant who closes the year well but rarely walks the monthly numbers with the owner, and generic business coaches who talk strategy without opening the profit and loss. Data Progressive occupies the middle ground — financial performance consulting that stays concrete, time-bound, and respectful of the person who carries the risk.
Origin
The practice began in Auckland after years of sitting across from owners who could recite last week’s sales but could not explain why cash felt tight after a “good” month. The pattern was familiar: mixed product margins, drawings treated as free, and reporting that arrived too late to change behaviour. We formed Data Progressive to give those owners a clear reading — and a short list of actions they could own.
How we work
We prefer fewer clients and deeper attention. Engagements start with discovery, move through documents and conversation, and end with something written you can keep. We do not sell software, take equity, or insert ourselves into your banking relationship. When tax or legal questions arise, we point you back to the professionals already on your side.
Values that show up in the work
- Plain language — if a finding cannot be explained without jargon, it is not ready.
- Owner agency — recommendations are framed as choices, not instructions.
- Proportion — a $2m firm does not need a listed-company reporting suite.
- Honesty about limits — incomplete books mean we pause; we do not invent precision.
New Zealand context
GST timing, seasonal tourism and agriculture cycles, and the realities of thinly staffed finance functions shape how we schedule work. Our office is at Level 7, 1 Albert Street, Auckland 1010; we also work by video with owners elsewhere in the country.
